In a significant pivot for its upcoming release, Xbox Game Studios and developer Stoic have announced that Towerborne will switch from a free-to-play model to a traditional paid title upon its official launch on February 26th.
Originally designed as an always-online multiplayer experience, the side-scrolling action RPG has undergone a massive structural overhaul. Trisha Stouffer, CEO of Stoic, confirmed that players will now purchase the complete experience permanently, unlocking the ability to play both offline and via online co-op.
This decision required deep technical restructuring over the last year to remove the systems designed for constant connectivity. By abandoning the live-service formula, Towerborne aims to offer a more self-contained RPG experience without the microtransactions typically associated with free-to-play titles.
