Xbox’s Towerborne Drops Free-to-Play Model for Premium, Offline-Ready Launch

In a significant pivot for Xbox Game Studios, the upcoming action RPG Towerborne is abandoning its original free-to-play (F2P) roots. Developer Stoic has confirmed that the game, currently in early access, will officially launch on February 26th as a premium title.

This decision marks a major structural overhaul. According to CEO Trisha Stouffer, the team spent the last year rebuilding systems to eliminate the requirement for constant connectivity. As a result, players will now purchase the game to “own the complete experience permanently”, unlocking the ability to play fully offline or enjoy online co-op. This shift moves Towerborne away from the modern live-service trend, promising a self-contained experience for fans of the side-scrolling genre when it arrives later this month.
