Volvo is ramping up expectations for its upcoming EX60 electric SUV, slated for a full reveal on January 21st. The automaker has confirmed some headline-grabbing specs, positioning the EX60 as a serious contender in the premium EV market.
The biggest news is the range: Volvo estimates the EX60 will achieve 400 miles on a single charge (810km WLTP). This represents a massive leap over the brand’s previous electric offerings and ensures the SUV remains competitive until the launch of the long-range ES90 sedan.
Technologically, the EX60 debuts Volvo’s new megacasting production process. By utilizing massive single-piece die-casts for the underbody, Volvo aims to reduce vehicle weight and significantly improve manufacturing efficiency. According to Akhil Krishnan, head of the EX60 program, the goal was to create an EV “with no compromises,” signaling a robust shift in the company’s engineering capabilities.
