Intel Targets Handheld Gaming Market with Custom ‘Panther Lake’ Chips

Intel is officially throwing its hat into the handheld gaming ring. Announcing a dedicated “handheld gaming platform” powered by its upcoming Panther Lake architecture, the chipmaker is poised to challenge rivals Qualcomm and AMD. While Qualcomm is teasing Windows gaming handhelds at GDC and AMD’s Strix Halo promises raw power, Intel is taking a different approach.

Reports from IGN and TechCrunch indicate that Intel is developing custom Intel Core G3 variants specifically for this form factor. Utilizing the new 18A manufacturing process, these chips aim to deliver efficiency and graphics performance that potentially exceeds the capabilities of the recently announced Arc B390 GPU. This move signals a massive shift toward dedicated hardware optimization for portable PC gaming, moving beyond simple laptop adaptations.
