SpaceX Cleared for Massive Starlink Expansion: 7,500 More Gen2 Satellites Approved

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has just granted SpaceX a critical green light to expand its Starlink constellation significantly. This authorization allows the aerospace giant to launch an additional 7,500 Gen2 satellites.

When combined with previous regulatory approvals, this decision enables SpaceX to deploy a total of 15,000 Gen2 satellites. This upgrade is pivotal for the company, as the second-generation hardware is designed to offer substantially higher bandwidth and more direct connections to smartphones, moving beyond traditional satellite internet dishes.

While this approval is a major step forward, it represents a partial victory; SpaceX originally applied for permission to launch nearly 30,000 satellites in this generation. However, this clearance provides the necessary runway to continue expanding global coverage and tackle the persistent backlog of customers waiting for connectivity.
