Platform Launches Weekly ‘Show Your Work’ Thread to Highlight User Projects

Moving away from strict content moderation, a major tech platform has announced the launch of a dedicated weekly thread titled ‘I made a useful thing.’ This initiative is designed to address community feedback while preventing the front page from becoming overwhelmed by user-generated content.

Previously, many self-promotional posts—ranging from open-source scripts to YouTube tutorials—were removed under advertising rules. Now, the platform is creating a structured sandbox for creators to showcase their pet projects, blogs, and videos without violating regulations. However, the administration clarified that this is not a free-for-all for advertisers; commercial advertisements and affiliate links remain strictly prohibited.

This pilot program represents a shift in community management, offering a compromise between curation and organic sharing. Users are encouraged to participate and even suggest a catchy name for the recurring series.
