Betterment App Hack: Notifications Push $10,000 Crypto Scam

In a shocking security lapse, the popular robo-advisor Betterment inadvertently pushed a $10,000 crypto scam to its users late Friday. The unauthorized notification promised to “triple your crypto” and asked customers to transfer funds to specific Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets.

While the message appeared to celebrate the company’s “best-performing year,” it was immediately flagged by the community on Reddit. Betterment responded via X (formerly Twitter), clarifying that the alert was sent via a compromised “third-party system.”

This incident raises serious concerns about the security protocols of financial apps relying on external vendors. Even if no funds were lost, the breach of trust in a platform designed to safeguard money is significant.
