In a significant pivot, Xbox Game Studios and developer Stoic have announced that their upcoming side-scrolling action RPG, Towerborne, will drop its planned free-to-play model. Instead, the game will launch on February 26th as a premium paid title.
This shift allows for a major structural change: Towerborne will no longer require an always-on internet connection. Players will gain the ability to play offline and own the complete experience permanently, while still retaining access to online co-op features.
Stoic CEO Trisha Stouffer revealed that transitioning away from the “constant connectivity” originally designed for the F2P model required a deep rebuild of the game’s systems over the past year. The game is currently available in early access.
