In a significant pivot for Xbox Game Studios, the upcoming side-scrolling action RPG Towerborne is abandoning its original free-to-play model. The game, developed by Stoic, will officially launch on February 26th as a premium title.
CEO Trisha Stouffer confirmed that players will now purchase the complete experience permanently, unlocking the ability to play both offline and via online co-op. This strategic shift required a year of “deep structural rebuilding” to strip out the systems designed for constant connectivity. By removing the always-on requirement, Stoic aims to deliver a more traditional, ownership-focused experience, distancing itself from the live-service mechanics initially promised during its early access phase.
