Meta has aggressively accelerated its pursuit of clean, baseload energy to support its massive AI infrastructure expansion. The tech giant has secured a trio of agreements with prominent nuclear entities: advanced reactor specialists Oklo and TerraPower, alongside energy behemoth Vistra.
This consolidated push targets over 6 gigawatts (GW) of power generation. While established players like Vistra offer immediate capacity through existing nuclear assets, the inclusion of startups like Oklo and TerraPower signals Meta’s long-term commitment to advanced fission technologies. This move highlights a growing trend among hyperscalers recognizing that renewable energy sources alone may be insufficient to meet the voracious, stable power demands of next-gen data centers.
By diversifying its energy portfolio with carbon-free nuclear power, Meta aims to stabilize its grid reliance and hit aggressive sustainability goals while training ever-larger LLMs.
