Following its Best In Show win at CES 2026, the Lego Smart Brick has revealed a hidden feature that could revolutionize precision building. While initial demos focused on programmable LEDs and motors, Lego Group design manager Maarten Simons showcased a surprisingly practical application: precise distance measurement.
Using a specialized “Lego Ruler”—composed of standard segments measuring exactly 10 studs (8cm)—Simons demonstrated how two Smart Bricks can track movement along a rail. This effectively transforms the toys into a digital caliper capable of detecting minute positional changes. While the potential for automation is obvious, this specific feature targets adult enthusiasts, allowing for complex MOCs (My Own Creations) that require exact scaling and alignment. It bridges the gap between physical play and digital precision, marking a significant step forward in the toy’s evolution.
