Move over, boring branding. Waymo is shaking things up by rebranding its custom-built Zeekr robotaxi, playfully dubbing it with a name that sounds like a casual greeting—”Oh hi.”
This latest development highlights the deepening partnership between Waymo and Geely, the parent company of Zeekr. The vehicle in question is a fully electric, purpose-built robotaxi designed without a steering wheel, optimized specifically for autonomous ride-hailing rather than human driving.
While the name might sound like a friendly welcome, it represents a serious shift in manufacturing. By heavily customizing an existing OEM platform, Waymo is moving away from retrofitting standard cars (like the Jaguar I-Pace) and toward a scalable, bespoke future. As this fleet hits the streets, the friendly moniker serves as a soft introduction to the public, aiming to make the sci-fi concept of self-driving cars feel a little more approachable and neighborly.
