Intel’s Panther Lake Targets the Booming Handheld Gaming Market

Intel is making a bold move to capture the dedicated handheld gaming market. Announced yesterday, the tech giant is developing a specialized “handheld gaming platform” built around its upcoming Panther Lake architecture. This strategy aims to secure a foothold in a sector currently dominated by devices like the Steam Deck, which faces increasing pressure from competitors.

The landscape is getting crowded: Qualcomm is reportedly showcasing Windows gaming handhelds at GDC in March, and AMD’s new Strix Halo chips are promising significant power boosts. To stay ahead, Intel is reportedly leveraging its cutting-edge 18A process to create custom Core G3 variants. These chips are designed to outperform standard integrated graphics, potentially even surpassing the capabilities of the recently announced Arc B390 GPU. This shift toward custom silicon highlights the industry’s race to deliver PC-quality gaming in portable form factors.
