Intel’s Panther Lake Chips Aim to Win the Handheld Gaming War

Intel is officially entering the handheld gaming arena with a dedicated strategy centered on its upcoming Panther Lake architecture. Announced yesterday, this move signals a shift from general-purpose processors to a specialized “handheld gaming platform” designed to compete with rivals Qualcomm and AMD.

According to reports from IGN and TechCrunch, Intel is developing a custom Intel Core G3 variant specifically for these portable devices. The goal is ambitious: leverage the new 18A manufacturing process to create a chip variant capable of outperforming the Arc B390 GPU found in their recent releases. This aggressive push highlights the intensifying battle for dominance in the PC handheld market, where Qualcomm is teasing Windows gaming devices for GDC and AMD is preparing its powerful Strix Halo chips.
