Intel is making a bold move to capture the booming handheld gaming PC market. Announcing a dedicated “handheld gaming platform,” Intel is developing custom variants of its upcoming Panther Lake chips specifically designed for portable form factors.
These new Core G3 “variant” chips, reportedly built on the advanced 18A process node, are poised to offer performance that could surpass Intel’s previously announced Arc B390 GPU. This aggressive strategy positions Intel directly against competitors like Qualcomm, which is teasing Windows handhelds at the Game Developers Conference, and AMD, whose Strix Halo chips are setting new performance bars.
By tailoring silicon for the thermal constraints of handhelds, Intel aims to solve the battery-life-versus-performance equation that plagues the current market.
