Intel has officially confirmed plans to develop a dedicated “handheld gaming platform” centered around its upcoming Panther Lake architecture. This move signals a direct offensive into the increasingly competitive portable gaming market, currently dominated by devices utilizing AMD and Arm-based silicon.
Reports indicate that Intel is manufacturing a custom variant of the Core G3 series specifically for handhelds. Leveraging their new 18A manufacturing process, this chip is rumored to feature a powerful GPU solution that could outperform the recently announced Arc B390. This strategic pivot aims to offer superior performance-per-watt in a compact form factor, challenging competitors like Qualcomm—who is teasing Windows handhelds at GDC—and AMD’s Strix Halo lineup.
