The architects behind some of the most addictive platforms in history are attempting a course correction. Biz Stone (Twitter) and Evan Sharp (Pinterest) have successfully secured new funding for their stealth social app, Sntl (pronounced “scent-ill”).
Unlike the algorithmic doom-scrolling of current giants, Sntl positions itself as a tool to “plan with intention.” It aims to combat the “terrible devastation” caused by traditional engagement-chasing models. By focusing on thoughtful planning and future-oriented action rather than passive consumption, the app seeks to prioritize user well-being over ad revenue.
The big question remains: Can the creators of the very systems they now critique build a solution that actually pulls us away from the dopamine loop, or is this just intention-washing? With their track records, the industry is watching closely.
