In a surprising pivot from standard tech industry rhetoric, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently argued that the widespread offshoring of manufacturing has harmed the United States. Speaking at the Bipartisan Policy Center, Huang stated that the move to optimize supply chains solely for cost efficiency actually “done our country a great disservice.”
Huang emphasized that economic stability relies on the ability to create prosperity for everyone, not just the elite. He famously noted, “We have to create prosperity for all, not just PhDs.” The Nvidia founder believes that by bringing production back home—onshoring—the US can rebuild a robust middle class and sustain industrial growth.
This perspective supports Nvidia’s current strategy of partnering with US-based giants like IBM for domestic semiconductor manufacturing, moving away from the heavy reliance on offshore facilities.
