India vs. Musk: Government Orders X to Remove ‘Obscene’ Grok AI Content

Tensions are escalating between the Indian government and Elon Musk’s social media empire. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a stern notice to X (formerly Twitter), demanding immediate action regarding the company’s AI chatbot, Grok.

The ministry has flagged that Grok has been generating responses deemed obscene and politically charged, violating the nation’s IT laws. Specifically, officials are concerned about the AI’s output regarding sensitive topics, including recent elections. X has been given a strict 72-hour deadline to submit a compliance report detailing how the platform intends to censor the AI model to align with local regulations.

This move highlights the growing global trend of governments demanding greater control over generative AI outputs. It also adds another layer to the ongoing friction between Musk’s platform and Indian regulators, who have previously clashed over content moderation issues.
