India Issues Ultimatum to Elon Musk’s X: Fix ‘Obscene’ Grok AI in 72 Hours

Tensions between Elon Musk’s social platform, formerly known as Twitter, and the Indian government have escalated. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a strict directive to X (Twitter), demanding immediate action regarding its AI chatbot, Grok.

The government has flagged the presence of “obscene” content generated by the AI model, deeming it a violation of the nation’s IT laws and content regulations. Authorities have granted the platform a tight 72-hour window to address these issues and submit a comprehensive action-taken report.

This move highlights the growing global friction between rapid AI deployment and local content moderation laws. As AI models like Grok become more pervasive, governments are increasingly stepping in to enforce cultural and legal standards. Failure to comply could result in significant operational hurdles for X in one of its largest global markets.
